The Apex Predator is a level 1 Monster. It appears as a small, innocent-looking duckling with black eyes.
Appearance[]
A little yellow duck. (You may look but no touching)
Behavior[]
Upon spotting a player, the Apex Predator will follow them, constantly trying to stay on their crosshair position to bait the player to grab it. If the player looks up or jumps, the duck will jump as well to maintain visibility.
If grabbed or damaged by anything, the Apex Predator will become enraged and grow a large, toothy maw before immediately chasing the player who angered it (or the closest player if damaged indirectly). It will be aggressive for ten seconds and begin rapidly biting, dealing damage up to three times per second. It can follow players underneath or above objects, such as tables. Once it begins its pursuit, it will always know the location of the player it's targeting, so hiding is impossible, outrunning it is the only option.
If the Apex Predator falls into a pit, it will fly back up unless stunned. It can continuously fly for 30 seconds.
Tips[]
- Luring the Apex Predator into a Manor or Arctic toilet (and flushing) or a Swiftbroom cauldron will launch and stun it for ~14 seconds, dealing some damage. With the launch damage, it can usually be finished off with some slams.
- Note that the Museum does not have any toilets or cauldrons. It does have security lasers, but these are not necessarily assured to kill the apex predator, nor do they keep it stunned for very long, so if you intend to use the security laser, you need to be ready to immediately follow up on it.
- It’s possible to stun the Apex Predator by tumble launching into it, dealing 15 damage, it will usually get pushed back far and fast, usually taking additional Physics damage. However, this is difficult to pull off due to its small size and airborne movement. Be aware that it will become aggressive to the closest player within 10 units around it, if no players are around that area, it will just get back up and do nothing.
- The Apex Predator can also be crushed by an extraction point for another easy kill, this works well as it will remain largely stationary at the location of the players cursor. This, conveniently, also gives you the money from its Enemy Valuable if the duck is far enough into extraction. If it is too close to the edge the Valuable will just remain as an item instead of being sold.
- The Apex Predator loses interest quickly. Running into the next room and hiding under something is often enough for it to stop pursuing you.
- However, since the Apex Predator follows your cursor, you can look at a wall with an adjacent room behind it to guide it into that room and break line of sight. After a few seconds, it will likely lose track of you.
- Since the Apex Predator cannot fly forever, players can attempt to push it into a pit then block it above with any big item, like a C.A.R.T., until it falls.
- Even in its enraged state, the apex predator can still be stunned and/or killed. A carefully aimed attack will disrupt its aggression, although it will enrage again once it recovers from the stun unless killed.
Trivia[]
- It's possible to lift the duck, although you will need 999999 force which is 833328 strength upgrades required. (note: even with editing, this amount of strength upgrades is impossible as the max is less than 100)
- With mods, it is possible to lift the duck, if done, You will get the same result as when you pick up any other Monster.
- A painting in the Museum of Human Art shows what appears to be Dumgolf using his staff on a duck, implying that the duck's mutations are a byproduct of a spell.
