The Chef, often called the Frog, is a level 2 Monster in R.E.P.O., It attacks by Tumbling with its 2 small Cleavers.
Appearance[]
The Chef is a Green, Clumsy, Relatively Small Creature that resembles a Frog wearing a bloody chefs uniform.
Starting with the Chefs head, it wears a chefs hat, lightly covered in blood, Its eyes are black with horizontal yellow pupils, the Chefs mouth has drips of blood on it, and above its mouth is a small, black, moustache.
On the Chefs torso, it wears its uniform, which is mostly covered in blood, it has 2 arms and legs, with 4 fingers including the thumb, its arms have sleeves, unlike the legs which dont have any clothing.
In the Chefs attack animations, it will show its open mouth, showing its teeth and gums, it has 9 teeth with 5 on the top row, and 4 on the bottom row.
Also in the Chefs attack animation, is its 2 Cleavers, these cleavers are metallic and have blood on it, these cleavers are the Chefs main weapon.
Behavior[]
the Chef will be aimlessly hopping around the level, the term "hopping" is relevent here because the chef actually jumps to move instead of walking.
Once the Chef spots a semibot, it will hop up to them if theyre far enough, if then close enough to the semibot, the Chef will start its attack, it stands still and it has a large delay, the attack is indicated by the Chef smiling and then pulling out its cleavers, it will turn itself at the direction of the targeted semibot until the delay has ended.
After the Chef's delay, it will start tumbling and lunge itself at a very fast speed to whatever direction it was looking at (dependant on where the semibot was), slightly bouncing up and swinging its cleavers, The Chef will also turns into a Physics object while attacking, which means it will bounce around, can be picked up, etc, the Chef will deal 10 damage every time it hits a semibot or monster, it will also stun them and smaller monsters for a short time.
The Chef can be a very serious threat to valuables as it can damage them, especially to valuables that are fragile, have higher value, or both, usually it will only hit a valuable a few times, but for example, if it stays on a valuable, it can severely damage it.
After some time, the Chef will stop attacking either go back to roaming, or leave, where it will mostly ignore the semibots, usually incidated when the Chef turns around, after reaching the place it wanted to go to, it will return to roaming.
Lore[]
Not much is known about the Chef as of today, but the blood on its clothing, one of the paintings in the Museum of Human Art, which depicts the Chef attacking a human, and it's already aggressive nature to semibots, implies that the Chef could be very hostile to Humans and possibly other animals.
Tips[]
- If a player crouches right after the Chef starts tumbling, it can fly over that players head.
- Players can use the Chef can be used to help them, very easily infact, as it will lunge forward to wherever the targeted player was when tumbling, they can use this to your advantage by baiting him into damaging another monster, players can also do this with pits for an easy kill, or with other players if they want to troll them.
- If a player is being targeted by the Chef, after it starts tumbling, another player can grab the Chef, usually preventing it from going anywhere and saving the player being targeted by the Chef.
- The Chef will not be stunned if grabbed in this way, even if grabbed in mid-air, nor can it be slammed. It will also continue flailing its cleavers around, doing damage to anything close enough. Players will have to stun it manually before it can be slammed as usual.
- Players should avoid getting cornered by the Chef. That's when it's most dangerous, as it can stun them and fall on top of a player while still flailing, inflicting serious damage. If cornered, players can dash and jump past it again while it's preparing to attack. Tumbling into the Chef directly is a dangerous trick for players, but if they have a Tumble Launch upgrade, they can potentially stun it for a second at the cost of some health, also granting Players more of an opening to escape.
- The Chef is prone to ricocheting off of furniture such as chairs while trying to attack a player underneath it. If spotted, they can try to hide underneath something with a very low roof, and hide as far back under it as they possibly can. If the chef tries to attack, it will likely bounce off the object and miss completely before losing sight of the targeted player again.
