If you're looking for a valuable with the same name - see Clown Doll.
Clown is a Level 3 Monster in R.E.P.O. with an appearance of a malformed clown with a long nose.
Behavior[]
The Clown stomps around when roaming, causing Screen Shake (if enabled). When it spots a player, it will charge up, and shoot a laser beam towards their head. Afterwards it will quickly walk toward them to try and kick them. When the Clown aims the laser at the player's head, its y axis is locked in right after which means that after he has started his beam attack he won't be able to rotate his laser vertically. The beam can deal plenty of damage to your Valuables and other Monsters.
Like the Robe, the Clown will kick objects blocking its path, whether they are valuables, equipment, or (Very rarely) other monsters. This can result in Valuables within the C.A.R.T. and larger Valuables on the ground taking damage, losing value. To avoid this, it's best to keep the cart and larger Valuables from blocking off hallways and other narrow passages.
The Clown has some proximity awareness. If a player moves while they're very close to the Clown, it will quickly spin around to kick the player. This can happen even if the player is outside of the Clown's line of sight (ex. directly behind it). It can detect crouched and hiding players that move as well, so be careful.
Lore[]
A certain graffiti in the Museum of Human Art shows that the Clown's laser is a direct result of having the gem from Dumgolf's Staff in its red orb. The artwork is unclear whether the crystal is harvested from the Clowns, if the staff's crystal is absorbed by the Clowns, or even if there is another form of transformation involved, such as Dumgolf becoming the Clown.
Tips[]
- It's usually easier to crouch under a high laser than to jump over a low laser; as such, it's best to wait a moment while standing when it's preparing its laser attack in order to crouch under it. Otherwise, players can jump over the laser if it attacks while they are crouched.
- It is possible to jump over the Clown's kick attack if timed properly; its hitbox is low enough that a player can jump over it even without any extra jump upgrades.
- It is also possible to dodge by approaching it and then running backwards. This method is called 'melee lock' and it is easier to perform if the user has sprint upgrades.
- Although it isn’t stunned by every size of valuable, it can still be killed fairly easily by properly avoiding its attacks and hitting it with valuables within the correct time windows. Though, for a safer kill, it is recommended to use something that can stun it
