The Rugrat, often called the Baby, is a level 2 Monster in R.E.P.O., it attacks by throwing valuables at the player. It can serve to be quite a challenge when trying to keep valuables intact or when combined with other monsters.
Appearance[]
The Rugrat appears to be an infant wearing a diaper. it has light skin, bulbous eyes with yellow irises, a small, wide nose, and a large, gaping mouth with thick lips and a single tooth on the its right side of the mouth. Its body is relatively featureless except for its tummy which does appear to have fat rolls of some kind. Additionally, the Rugrat has no distinct fingers or toes.
While holding an item, it will squint, which implies that it is focusing on the throw.
Behaviour[]
The Rugrat aimlessly roams around until it sees a Semibot. When it does, it will try to grab the nearest valuable, after which it will target chase down the Semibot it spotted, attempting to throw what it's holding at them. It cannot throw the item within ~3 seconds of picking it up, if it is too close (in which case it will back up until it can throw it), or if it does not have line of sight with the Semibot. It is difficult to hide from a Rugrat whilst it is holding the valuable. If it fails to pick one up, it will try again or run away. After throwing/failing a throw the Rugrat will be unable to aggro on a Semibot for ~15 seconds. If a thrown item is too big, the Rugrat will also damage itself or fail to even throw the item enough to damage the targeted Semibot.
Damage[]
Damage dealt to Semibots depends on the weight of the item. Damage values are as stated below.
Damage dealt to Monsters is the same as if it were done by the Semibots.
Lore[]
Not much is known about the Rugrat, but there is a chance it could be some kind of deformed human, it could also further be part of the Human Group, this can also apply to the Huntsman.
Tips[]
- Take any Valuable at your disposal, preferably a cheap and tough one, and hit the Rugrat with it by scrolling the mouse wheel. Each hit will deal damage whilst also stunning it for 2 seconds. One valuable usually has enough durability (value) to fully kill one Rugrat.
- However, during and after the Crescent Moon Phase (level 5), it becomes harder as small valuables will not work, meaning that you need to use medium sized valuables or higher to stun it.
- If the Rugrat holds a valuable before being stunned, it will drop the item, usually damaging it as well.
- Crouching/tumbling/hiding makes a player near impossible to spot whilst the Rugrat is roaming, as it takes a long time for it to spot crouching those players, plus the rugrat is a fairly fast monster
- If a Rugrat has taken a valuable, grab it and look up while holding it. The valuable won't be launched.
- This can be done with a valuable of any weight.
- When doing this, approach the Rugrat while sprinting. It will continuously back up and won't throw the valuable until the 10 second timer runs out.
- Holding an item in the air can prevent a Rugrat from taking it, although whilst doing this the Rugrat will continuously attempt to grab it for at least half a minute, after which it will run away.
- As with dropping/throwing an item into a C.A.R.T. or Extraction Point, the valuable will not take any damage if thrown into one of these locations.
- While extremely dangerous during the early stages of the level where items are plentiful, Rugrats tend to become easier and easier to deal with as more and more items are looted and extracted; especially if the player(s) tend to loot the stage completely, during the final extraction the Rugrat can generally be ignored safely.
- An easy way to kill a Rugrat is to bait them, When you place a valuable over a pit it will cause the Rugrat to jump attempting to catch the valuable, securing you an orb.
