The Trudge is a Level 3 Monster in R.E.P.O. and it acts as a roadblock when encountered and is quite hard to kill without the right equipment.
Appearance[]
The Trudge is a large, fleshy, corpse-like creature which wears black metallic armor on its shoulders, chest, waist, and lower legs. Its skin is red and fleshy, with bits of bone protruding on its left knee, left forearm, right wrist and head.
The creature's head is a skull stained with blood. The right socket of the skull has a fleshy tendril poking out, with an orange eyeball at the end of it. The skull itself stems from its long, thin, floppy neck. Its body is broad with another eyeball (but black with an orange pupil) and ribs protruding from its abdomen.
Its left arm is severed at the elbow where we see bits of bone emerge. However, its right arm is long with the flesh fused into mace, resembling a Morningstar. It's thighs are muscular and thick, but its lower legs are obscured by its armour boots.
Its onyx-coloured armor consists of multiple pieces: bulbous shoulder plates, smaller bicep and triceps plates, smooth upper chest plates, segmented tassets with a codplate and culet, and large metal boots with curved tips on the feet.
The Trudge is presumably the corpse (or corpses) of a creature, most likely human.
Concept art of the Trudge shows some addictional bone parts on its neck.
Behavior[]
The Trudge will roam around aimlessly, It's speed is extremely slow, being even slower then a semibot’s crawl speed.
If the Trudges path is blocked by something, for example the C.A.R.T., eventually, it will swing its mace, dealing no damage to semibots or Monsters, but dealing decent damage to valuables or even destroying stuff like doors.
Once it has spotted a semibot, it will try to get close enough to them to enter its range. If they are close enough, the Trudge will initiate its attack by slamming down its mace, dealing 100 damage to any Semibot underneath it, before creating a vacuum vortex that will suck in any valuables and semibots.
After a few seconds, its mace will create a small explosion, dealing 20 damage to any semibots in it, and knocking anything around it back, semibots will take an additional 80 damage if they hit a surface after being hit by the trudge.
If the trudge spots a semibot that is under an object, the Trudge will walk up to their hiding place, then drop onto the floor, and its skull will begin to bite them every half second, dealing 35 damage on each bite and light knockback.
Finally, if it loses track of a semibot, it will either start searching around for some time, or just leave, which is indicated by the trudge walking away from the targeted semibot.
Tips[]
- Trudges have 500 health, making them difficult to kill, even with valuables that stun it. If you have the Clown Doll, it’s best to repeatedly damage the Trudge until the Clown is close to breaking, then detonate it (Which can be done by honking it's nose 3 times), but it should be noted that the trudge will no longer be stunned by the clown or any other medium sized valuables when the Crescent Moon (first moon phase) activates on level 5.
- The Trudge usually survives multiple hits from every weapon, aside from both the C.A.R.T. Cannon and Laser.
- Hiding from the Trudge is not usually recommended as it can be risky if it is facing you, because due to its slow speed, it can have enough time to stare you down and fully detect you after about 5 seconds.
- Be very careful with a Trudge near your cart, you can even bring it with you if you need to.
Trivia[]
- The Trudge's design could possibly be inspired by King Mighty One-Eye from The Thief and the Cobbler with the dark armor, eye on the chest, and singular large eye on the head all being similar design elements.
- The Trudge was once considered to be a creature of folklore by the humans, as seen in a poster in one of the extraction modules in the Museum of Human Art.
- According to Pontus, the Trudge would win a Twerk-Off battle against all other R.E.P.O Monsters in the game.[1]
