The Upscream is a level 2 Monster that resembles a human moving on all fours, its torso being almost not visible. It scurries around the level, crawling at medium speed. When it spots a player, it approaches them and when in range screams at them, flinging them backwards, dealing 10 damage and stunning them for 2 seconds. While screaming, the targeted player has their view locked onto the Upscream. After screaming a maximum of three times they will run off.

Upscream can damage the player even if you hide under low furniture like bed or chair, by going above the place where it saw you. If the player, while hiding under low furniture, moves from their initial position after Upscream has seen them it won't damage the player.

Tips[]

  • A single Upscream can be annoying, but multiple can be deadly, as they can stunlock a player in an endless loop of attacks until they die.
  • If there’s more than one, make sure your team is coordinated or risk getting tossed around until it’s game over.
  • If chased by an Upscream, ensure it does not hit you in the direction of another monster. Try to navigate around it to make sure it flings you in the other direction if possible. Being flung into a different monster will usually result in death.
  • Back up into a wall so that you tumble into it when it knocks you back. This will launch it back and deal damage when it collides with an object.
  • Because of its tendency to launch you upwards and backwards, the Upscream becomes significantly more deadly in rooms with pits, as it can launch you over any railings dedicated to stopping you fall into such pits. Never spend any longer than you have to in a room that has pits if you know an Upscream is present in the level.
  • They can be stunned by any Valuable regardless of size, making them easy to kill if stunned.
  • If two or more players grab one, they can lift and slam it repeatedly to kill it.
  • Upscreams can jump and climb onto certain objects, such as tables and chairs. Hiding atop them will not guarantee safety.
  • Players can jump and tumble above the Upscream to dodge it. This also has a chance to make the Upscream lose line of sight, removing any aggro against the player.
  • Contrary to what we could think, the Tumble Wings Upgrade doesn't help the player to take less damage.
  • It is possible to force yourself right into the corner of a room and crouch down as low as possible. If done right, The Upscream will immobilise you, but won't be able to launch you anywhere, preventing you from taking damage.
  • Extraction points are padded, and will protect you from physics damage, should the Upscream catch you by one.
  • If you have a melee weapon, it's possible to equip it right as the Upscream grabs you, and you can damage it that way. This will also stun it and prevent you from being launched and likely damaged or thrown in a pit. However, you need good reflexes and timing for this.
